The Lusaka FAZ Provincial Division One entered week eight of action and saw some exciting fixtures as Young Green Buffaloes won the Army derby to hold on to the top slot, Lusaka City Council have also continued their chase, Irwin Rangers have now recorded 5 losses in a row while Young Zanaco shined in a hard-fought win over the exciting Athletico Lusaka youngsters.
With only 9 games remaining to hit 34 games, coach Willy Katenge and his team are back to business after a miserable start to the campaign as they aim to maintain their stay in the Lusaka Province Division 1 come next season.
A well-taken penalty gave Young Zanaco their seventh win of the season as they managed a 1-0 victory away to Athletico Lusaka to move to 13th place on the table.
Both teams did not have it easy as only a mistake in the box changed the trajectory of the match, Elijah Kola was brought down in the box, the referee did not hesitate and gave a penalty to the visiting side.
The man of the moment in the Zanaco squad Martin Daka went for power behind the ball to beat the goalkeeper and send the match to the break with a 1-0 advantage. In the second half, the chances for equalizer did not come as Zanaco put up a very solid performance to protect their lead despite a late charge by the Barcelona Academy Zambia-based side. In the last minute of the added time, Athletico Lusaka was reduced to 10 men when Bernard Bwalya was sent off for a challenge on Mike Sibande.
In another interesting match, Young Green Buffaloes recorded a 1-0 win over Riflemen in an Army derby at Green Square ground. Paul Chibambo provided the only goal of the match to grant Buffaloes a victory and the important three points at this stage. Young Buffaloes maintains their lead at the summit of the Lusaka Provincial Division One log with 49 points 2 ahead of second positioned Lusaka City Council who are seating on 47 points after coming from behind to beat Kalilo Celtic 2-1.
The other team in the title race are Young Napsa Stars who beat Irwin Rangers 2-1 thanks to a Roger Shakami brace whereas Misisi Academy suffered a setback after they shared spoils with Paramilitary FC following a goalless draw at Katwishi Ground.
In other matches, Airport Warriors beat Happy Hearts 1-0, Chongwe United, and Shamuel played out to a 2-2 draw. In Chainda, Vector scored 4 goals away from home to beat Chainda Bombers 4-2 and Sable Bulls v Kabwata Dynamos ended in a barren draw.
