FAZ Women’s League entered Match Week 12 of action on Saturday as red-hot and unstoppable Green Eagles continued with their 100% winning record after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Luyando Foundation Girls who suffered their first defeat of the season.
Luyando’s Ruth Daka opened the scores and her goal was the difference in the first half at ZNS Makeni Ground.
After the break Eagles started like a house on fire and it was Tryness Changwe who scored from long range leaving Shanice Kolala in goal for Luyando with no chance.
Just when the game was headed for a draw, Eagles and league top goal scorer Natasha Nanyangwe scored her 13th goal of the season as she found herself in free acres of space with only Kolala to beat before slotting home the match-winning goal in an empty goal to make it 2-1 to Eagles who lead the table with 33 points.
Elsewhere, NAPSA Queens also extended their unbeaten run with a comfortable 3-1 win over Football Chance Foundation Girls at NRDC Ground.
Football Chance opened the scores through Saliya Mwanza but her goal was canceled out by Pensioners in-form striker Faustina Ndelelwa who converted from the penalty spot to make it 1-1 going at the break.
After the resumption, Lubelenga put the Pensioners in the lead before doubling the lead with her second of the day for Tangala Girls to record a 3-1 victory going into next weekend’s game against Green Eagles.
Stubborn Girls Pataaki utilized their home ground advantage as they defeated King Sports Academy Girls 2-1 at Olympia Park Secondary School Grounds.
Pataaki’s mesmerizing striker Blessing Zulu and Pauline Lungu scored for the stubborn girls while Mary Phiri scored the consolation goal for King Sports.
At the same venue in a late kick-off, Mapani Queens recorded another victory in succession with a slender 1-nil victory over their neighbors Garden Youth Academy.
Dorothy Chimfwembe scored the only goal of the game for the coach Alexander Dale drilled lasses and that was enough to collect maximum points.
Twikatane and Lusaka Red Lions shared spoils in the Zingalume Derby at Twikatane Complex.
A game that had end-to-end action between two teams that share the same ground failed to produce a match winner as the final score was 0-0 much to the delight of both technical benches.
