Pataaki Girls Football Club has moved top of the 2021/22 FAZ Women’s League Table for Lusaka Province with a 100% winning record after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Progress Sports Club (PSC) who suffered their first defeat of the season in a match week 3 played this morning at Olympia Park Secondary School Ground.
The Stubborn Girls were going into this game high on confidence as they were coming from another victory over Mapani (1-0) in the Olympia Derby while Progress was bubbling with confidence having held Luyando Foundation Girls to a goalless draw.
It was a cagey affair between Pataaki Football Club and Progress which saw both teams battling to a goalless draw in the first half with end-to-end action.
However, the visitors took the lead in the early stages of the second half through Lweendo Shamulonga who scored from outside the box after being assisted by Eunice ‘Khoi-Khoi’ Mapulanga.
The Stubborn Girls responded with a similar attack to level the scores through 2021 Lusaka Province Young Player of the Year Blessing Zangose Zulu to make it 1-1.
Justina ‘Senior’ Zulu made critical saves to keep Progress in the game but COSAFA Region 5 Games Gold Medalist Jessy Zulu was always looking dangerous and kept the visitors defenders on their toes.
Zambia Under-20 Women’s National Team Defender Pauline Zulu converted from the penalty spot in the middle of the second stanza after Progress Defender was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the are and that proved to be the winner, helping Pataaki to a hard fought 2-1 victory over a resolute Progress.
This victory by the Coach Patrick Luwe Phiri drilled lasses has taken the Olympia based side top of the table with 9 points from 3 games while the Coach Josphat Maimisa tutored side remain winless on 12th position after 3 games with only 2 points to their name so far this season.
Pataaki’s next assignment is an away fixture against Twikatane Queens while Progress will host Terence Soccer Academy Girls (TSA).
Elsewhere, Elessy Chilandula scored the only goal of the game as Luyando Foundation Girls recorded a 1-0 win over visiting Young YASA.
Chipolopolo midfield ace Klings Kangwa owned Kings Soccer Academy Girls edged Garden Youth 1-0 while Terence Academy Girls and One Boss Lady played to a 1-1 draw.
The match between Msisi Queens and Twikatane was halted in the first half by heavy rains while Chibolya Queens and Kafue Celtic Queens played to a 1-1 draw.
