Lots to help complete AFCON quarter final list

Lots will decide whether Guinea or Mali reach the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals after the two teams completed the group stage on equal standing.

The ‘lucky’ team will complete the quarter final list which has Congo, Congo DR, Tunisia, hosts Equatorial Guinea, Algeria, Ivory Coast and Ghana.

A random draw will be conducted to determine the second place team in Group B, between Mali and Guinea.

The draw will take place during the meeting of the Organising Committee of the Africa Cup of Nations on Thursday, 29 January 2015 at 16H00 local time at the Hilton Malabo.

There will be two balls with position two (2) and position three (3), and the representative of the two teams will pick a ball from the pot. The one who picks position two (2) qualifies for the quarter final.

The last time lots were drawn to decide a team’s qualification in this tournament was in 1988 when Algeria profited at Ivory Coast’s expense.

Ivory Coast finished top of Group D after beating Cameroon 1-0 – the only match in the group not to finish in a 1-1 draw.

Quarter Finals:

Saturday

Congo v Congo DR (18:00hrs)

Tunisia v Equatorial Guinea (21:30)

Sunday

Ghana v (Qualifier) (18:00hrs)

Côte d’Ivoire v Algeria (21:30hrs)

  1. The rules of ancient tornaments being brought in mordern times. This is useless. Let Guinea and Mali amalgamate to form one team called GUIMAL and face Ghana in quater finals. Or disqualify both teams so that Ghana goes straight into semi finals.

    • Does any team get a free ride on a tournament? Mumbi, where did u get this idea of disqualifying both Guinea & Mali? In as much as l do not subscribe to the balloting idea, your suggestion is horrible. Did u think about it? Wouldn’t the balloting be better than disqualifying both teams? Please come again becos u don’t seem to understand what a tournament entails.
Combine 2 nations? How many players will be selected to make This squad? Who does the selection? How many from each side? Which coach will take over? How many days will be given to them to sort out these issues? Do u see the inherent problems? NO because u lack analytical thinking. Your thought processes are faulty.
THIS IS THE MORE REASON U ALWAYS HAVE PROBLEMS WITH Kay HUMMER.

  2. @ Kwanza, my serious suggestion in some previous post was that, CAF should use the more reasonable way of picking a team based on discplinery matters. eg, a team with a lot of red/yellow cards shoul be below the one with less cards accrued in all three games.
In mordern times, discpline is rewarded rather than in ancient times. Forget about my comment above. thanx.

    • You are notorious for such unthought of remarks & therefore not surprising Kwamza is pouncing on you. See Dr. ROK for common sense . You may share that with you friend. Tweaaaaaaaaaa
