Nkana Football Club and Lumwana Radiants suffered setbacks on their quest to escape the dreaded relegation zone after they suffered losses at hands of Young Green Eagles and Red Arrows respectively on Saturday afternoon.
Nkana made a more than 400 KM trip to Kafue looking for their fourth straight victory, a win that could take them out of the relegation zone.
At Khosa Stadium, The Eaglets have only managed to lose twice and both games to Kabwe based teams in Prison Leopards and Warriors, Living up to the notion that at home they are difficult to beat, Kelvin Mwaanga’s men took the lead in 36th minute after a cagey first half-hour through Damiano Kola who tapped in from close range.
Three minutes later Savior Konkola doubled the leaf with another close-range finish, 2-0, Nkana’s hope of a fourth straight win looked blick at this point as Young Green Eagles took a comfortable lead into the break.
Nkana came back from the break with a little more hunger and the hosts looked to be on the back foot from the start of the second half with little delaying tactics here and there coming into play.
With the match looking like it was headed for a draw Nkana’s pressure paid off as Ronald Kampamba pulled one back from close range in the 87th minute before Moses Nyondo could level matters three minutes later much to the delight of the Nkana contingent.
Nyondo however quickly turned villain in additional time as he failed to defend a Young Eagles pass allowing Isaac Ngoma to get the better of him and win the match at the death with a beautiful strike sending the fans who were watching on rooftops and wall fences into a frenzy, 3-2 the match ended.
The win takes Young Green Eagles to 10th place with 42 points while Nkana remains in 15th place with 37 points and concludes their games in hand on Wednesday against Sensational ZANACO at Sunset Stadium.
Elsewhere, Red Arrows handed Lumwana Radiants their 13th loss of the season as they edged them 2-1 away in Solwezi.
Goals from Saddam Yussuf Phiri and Joseph Phiri secured a 2-1 win for Chisi Mbewe’s Airmen. Chewe Mukuka’s own goal was the consolation for Lumwana Radiants.
The win takes Red Arrows to third place with 49 points meaning Kabwe Warriors drop to fifth place while Lumwana Radiants remain stuck in 17th place with 33 points.
