Late drama, away wins and rain disruptions mark MTN Super League Matchweek 28

Matchweek 26 of the MTN Super League delivered late goals, crucial away victories, stubborn defensive displays, and weather-affected fixtures on Thursday afternoon.

At Shinde Stadium, the Mopani derby between Mufulira Wanderers and Nkana  ended one-all. Bartuel Tembo gave Wanderers the lead in the 65th minute, but Dave Daka rescued a point for Nkana with an 80th-minute penalty.

Nkana have now recorded three consecutive draws while Mufulira Wanderers are unbeaten on their last five games.

In Lusaka, FC MUZA secured an impressive two-one away win over NAPSA Stars. Rickson Ng’ambi opened the scoring before Bridger Ng’andu doubled the lead. Illunga Tresor pulled one back late for the hosts, but MUZA held firm to claim maximum points.

The win takes FC MUZA to 37 points and moves them to 7th place on the log.

Green Buffaloes and Konkola Blades shared the spoils in a goalless stalemate, with both sides unable to find a breakthrough despite several chances.

Elsewhere, ZANACO FC returned to winning ways with a solid two-nil victory over Mutondo Stars. Idana Chimwemwe opened the scoring in the 23rd minute before Eliya Mandanji added a second just before halftime to seal the win.

Mandanji has now scored in four consecutive matches and moves to ten goals for the season.

In Choma, Green Eagles salvaged a late point against Kabwe Warriors in a one-one draw. Simon Tonga had put Warriors ahead in the 53rd minute, but Derrick Bulaya struck in the 86th minute to ensure the hosts avoided defeat.

Meanwhile, Red Arrows and Nkwazi battled to a goalless draw in a tightly contested encounter.

The Airmen missed a chance to reduce Power Dynamos’ lead at the summer to just a point.

Heavy rains disrupted two fixtures. The match between Power Dynamos and FC Leopards was halted at nil-nil and will resume the following morning at 10:00 hours. Similarly, the clash between Nchanga Rangers and ZESCO United was abandoned under the same circumstances, also set to continue at 10:00 hours.
