Copper Queens forward Rachel Kundananji opened her goal account for the 2025 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Kundananji netted the opener as Bay FC played to a 1-1 draw with Seattle Reign in a match played at the Paypal Park in San Jose, California.
Bay FC opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, After building up the pitch, forward Caroline Conti found Kundananji in stride with a perfectly weighted pass.
Kundananji then hit a left-footed shot that pinged off both goalposts before crossing the line. The goal was her first of the season and sixth of her Bay FC career, with Contiās assist marking the first of her career.
Seattle answered back with an equalizer five minutes after the start of the second half. Huitema found the net off a set piece, heading in a cross from midfielder Sam Meza.
Despite chances Bay FC could not find the winner and settled for a point.
Bay FC will now embark on two straight away matches to open May, starting next week at San Diego Wave FC Sunday, May 4. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. PT on NWSL+, Paramount+, and NBC Sports Bay Area.
The club returns home May 17 when Angel City FC comes north to the Bay Area for the two sidesā first matchup of 2025.
