Zambian duo of strikers Rachel Kundananji and Prisca Chilufya will be looking to guide their Kazakhstan side, BIIK Kazyugurt to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
Kundananji and Chilufya’s Kazyugurt are hoping to progress to the next round and they need to start with a good result when they host German champions Bayern Munchen a side that eliminated them at the same stage last season.
Bayern Munich walloped the Kazakhstan side 7 nil on aggregate last season following a 2 nil away in Kazakhstan and a 5 nil in Germany.
BIIK Kazygurt qualified to the round of 16 following a 2-2 aggregate against WFC Zhytlobud-2 Kharkiv of Ukraine but with a better away goal margin. This was after a 2-1 away loss and a 1-0 win home for BIIK Kazygurt
The Kazakhstan outfit won a 5 team national women’s championship league with an impressive record of eight straight wins scoring 64 times and only conceding once in a match against second-placed okzhetpes hauling a total of 24 points with a 100% win record with their closest rival in the second place finishing on 18 points with Kundananji as top goalscorer with ten goals.
Kundananji will be looking to add to her UEFA Women’s Champions League tally while Chilufya will be aiming to open her account and join ‘RAS K’ and Misozi
Copper Queens vice-captain Misozi ‘CR7’ Zulu became the first Zambian footballer to score in the UEFA Women Champions League while Rachel Kundananji became the second to do so on 13th August 2019.
The duo scored a goal each in BIIK Kazygurt 4-1 win over Finish side Pallokerho-35 Vantaa. Misozi opened the scores in the 23rd minute while Kundananji added a third in the 60th minute.
The first leg will be played on 3rd March in Kazakhstan before a return fixture on 10th March in Germany.
The Round of 16 first legs will be played on March 3-4 and the second legs on March10-11 across eight venues in Europe.
