The 2026 MTN Super League Transitional League got off to an entertaining start on Saturday, with Konkola Blades producing the biggest result of Stream A while Green Eagles made the early running in Stream B.
Konkola Blades came from behind to beat defending champions Power Dynamos 2-1, while Green Eagles recorded an emphatic 4-1 victory over Mufulira Wanderers.
The Transitional League features 20 teams split into two streams, with each side playing 18 matches before the top teams advance to the final phase.
Stream A
Konkola Blades 2-1 Power Dynamos
Konkola Blades made a perfect start as they came from behind to defeat defending champions Power Dynamos 2-1.
Clive Biyeta gave Blades an early advantage inside the opening minute, but Power responded through Amine Hiver, who converted from the penalty spot in the 82nd minute after Jackson Mulambia was brought down in the box.
The hosts, however, had the final say three minutes later when Wilson Chisala turned the ball into his own net from Biston Banda’s corner to hand Konkola Blades all three points.
The victory sends Blades to the top of Stream A after the opening round of matches, while Power begin the campaign without a point.
Napsa Stars 1-1 FC MUZA
Napsa Stars and FC MUZA shared the points in a 1-1 draw.
Chipo Manda put Napsa ahead in the 28th minute with a first-time finish, but MUZA responded before half-time through Kelvin Mwanza, who restored parity in the 42nd minute.
Both sides settled for a point, leaving them fourth and fifth respectively in the early Stream A standings.
Trident FC 0-1 Nkana FC
Record 13-time champions Nkana FC began their campaign with a narrow victory over Trident FC.
Charles Zulu scored the decisive goal in the 19th minute, beating the advancing Trident goalkeeper Haveson Ching’ambu to give Nkana all three points.
The result places Nkana second in Stream A, behind Konkola Blades on goal difference.
Nchanga Rangers 0-1 Zanaco
Zanaco also opened their campaign with victory after edging Nchanga Rangers 1-0.
Simon Tonga scored the only goal of the match in the fourth minute, finishing from a David Bulaya cross.
Zanaco sit third in Stream A after the opening round, while Nchanga Rangers are ninth.
Stream B
Mufulira Wanderers 1-4 Green Eagles
Green Eagles produced the most convincing victory of the opening round, thrashing Mufulira Wanderers 4-1.
Charles Yande opened the scoring in the 12th minute after being set up by Rickson Ngambi, before Derrick Bulaya doubled the advantage five minutes later following good work from Izukanji Simpemba.
Spencer Sautu made it 3-0 in the 64th minute, putting the Eagles firmly in control.
Mufulira Wanderers pulled one back through Christopher Tiki in the 74th minute, but Green Eagles restored their three-goal advantage when Henry Besa struck in the 86th minute.
The victory sends Green Eagles to the top of Stream B with a +3 goal difference, while Mufulira Wanderers are bottom after the opening round.
Nkwazi 1-2 Roan United
Roan United secured an away victory against Nkwazi in another closely contested Stream B encounter.
Hems Chanda gave Roan an early lead in the second minute, with Blessed Musamvu providing the assist.
Nkwazi levelled in the 37th minute when Emarson Kabwe headed home an Elias Kazangarare cross.
Roan, however, regained the lead seven minutes into the second half when Musamvu converted from an assist by Optone Maansa.
The win puts Roan United second in Stream B, while Nkwazi occupy ninth position.
Kabwe Warriors 1-1 Zesco United
Kabwe Warriors and Zesco United shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw at Godfrey Ucar Chitalu Stadium.
Paul Tembo put the hosts ahead in the 17th minute, with Kabwe taking a 1-0 lead into the break.
Zesco responded strongly after the interval, with the introduction of Kelvin Mubanga Kampamba and Antony Shipanuka adding attacking impetus.
Vitalis Ganter equalised in the 49th minute to earn Zesco a point on the road.
Both sides begin the campaign with a point, with Kabwe third and Zesco fourth in Stream B.
Week one standings
Stream A: Konkola Blades lead with three points, ahead of Nkana and Zanaco, who also have three points. FC MUZA and Napsa Stars have one point each, while Kansanshi Dynamos and Makeni All Stars are yet to play.
Stream B: Green Eagles top the table on three points, ahead of Roan United on goal difference. Kabwe Warriors and Zesco United have one point each, while Chirundu FC, Green Buffaloes, Mufondo Stars and Red Arrows are yet to play.
The transitional season continues next weekend as the 20 teams resume the battle for places in the decisive stages of the competition.
