Klings Kangwa sets helping Chipolopolo do well as his target

Chipolopolo midfielder Klings Kangwa has set helping the team to do well at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations set for Ivory Coast next month as his target.

Kangwa who was speaking after Thursday’s training session at the National Heroes Stadium said he was only focused on helping the team do well.

Zambia is in Group F alongside Congo DR, Morocco, and Tanzania. Kangwa is aware of how tough the group is but he believes such games are the ones players want.

“The group is tough but all players want to play such games against such teams. Everyone is excited and looking forward to the games

He (Avram Grant) has done a fantastic job. We need to keep working hard and not relaxing,” he said.

“My target is to play as well as I can and help my team.”

“Everything is going well, we just started and so far so good. We have a lot of work to do but we will take it a step at a time,” he added.

Kangwa says all the players are giving their best and there is a lot of competition which is very good for the team.

“A big group of players, it’s not going to be easy but everyone is pushing and looking good. We have a good crop of players. Everyone is ready and giving everything which is good for the team, we need competition,” he said.

“We have not been to the AFCON majority of us. There are a lot of expectations from the fans, we are going to give everything and work as a team. We are positive and ready to play this AFCON.”

The Chipolopolo Boys will shift base to Saudi Arabia next week. Whilst in Saudi Arabia, the Copper Bullets will face Cameroon in a friendly match on January 9.

The 2012 AFCON winners are returning to the continental showpiece for the first time in seven years.

Zambia opens its AFCON account on January 17 against Congo DR before facing Tanzania four days later.

The final group match is against Morocco on January 24.
