Power Dynamos have won the Bragging rights to the city of Kitwe following a 1-0 triumph over bitter rivals Nkana.
The long awaited Kitwe derby came to life at Arthur Davies with Power Dynamos looking to avoid three straight defeats in the derby.
For Nkana, Alex Ng’onga captained the team as Diamond Chikwekwe started from the bench.
Gilroy Chimwemwe and Ronald Kampamba returned to the squad but could only make the bench with Mangani Banda preferred in goal ahead of Kelvin Malunga by coach Beston Chambeshi.
Mwenya Chipepo decided to go with a 4-4-2 formation with Kennedy Musonda and Brian Mwila leading the attack.
From the onset it was clear both teams were aiming for a win. Alex Ng’onga has his shot saved by Mulenga in the 14th minute before Mulolani’s effort hit the post.
The first half was full of fouls thanks to the high intensity and a lot of off target shots.
Chambeshi made a change at the start of the second half withdrawing youngster Richard Ngoma who was making his derby debut for skipper Diamond Chikwekwe.
Power on the other hand were forced into a change after Makwaza Jnr sustained an injury with Mwaba taking his place ten minutes into the second stanza.
Power took the lead in the 57th minute as the ball hit Derrick Mukomboza’s chest before going into an empty net following a defensive mix up.
Nkana responded with introducing Ronald Kampamba, Bwalya Kasonde and Gilroy Chimwemwe to try and turn it around but the hosts held on to win the match much to the excitement of the home fans.
The result means Power Dynamos move up to 5th place with 47 points while Nkana remains 4th with 49 points.
