Kings Kangwa, Sabobo join Chipolopolo camp

With just one day to go before Zambia face the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in their first warm-up match, four foreign-based players have joined the Chipolopolo squad in Murcia, Spain.

The four are strikers Kennedy Musonda and Jack Kalichi Lahne, and midfielders Kings Kangwa and Joseph Sabobo Banda.

Musonda arrived yesterday, while Lahne, Sabobo and Kangwa arrived today and went straight to Pinatar Arena, where the Chipolopolo trained this afternoon.

Speaking to FAZ Media, Kangwa said this AFCON gives Chipolopolo a chance to do better than last time.

He admitted that the team’s last outing in Ivory Coast was not what the players or the nation wanted.

Lahne said he is excited to make the final 28-man squad after long days of anxiety and expectation.

The arrival of Musonda, Lahne, Kangwa and Sabobo brings the number of foreign-based Chipolopolo players in camp to seven, joining Fashion Sakala, Stopilla Sunzu and David Hamansenya.

Captain Lubambo Musonda, Patson Daka and Frankie Musonda are expected to join camp later today.

Assistant coach Andrew Sinkala has also joined the Moses Sichone-led technical bench.

The Chipolopolo Boys will on Tuesday, December 16, play the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) at 16:00 hours in a warm-up match ahead of AFCON in Morocco.

Twenty-four hours later, Zambia will face Ivory Coast at 10:00 hours before departing for Morocco later the same day.

With only 24 hours between the two matches, Sichone is likely to use two different teams to allow proper recovery before travel to Morocco to kick off their AFCON campaign.
