King Kola makes Chipolopolo return for Nigeria clash

Rogers Kola has been summoned to join the Chipolopolo team that will play Nigeria in the 2018 Russia World Cup qualifier this Sunday.

The Hapoel Ra’anana striker make a return to the national team having last featured for Zambia in September 2013.

Fazfootball reports that the 27 year old sriker got his lucky break after Kaizer Chiefs striker Lewis Macha was ruled out of the match owing to an injury he sustained before Zambia’s game against Kenya last month.

Kola is a member of the Zambia U20 class of 2007 which played at the Junior World Cup in Canada and has been domiciled in Europe since 2009 when he moved to Israel.

He will compete for a starting position with Collins Mbesuma, Winstone Kalengo and Jackson Mwanza for the Sunday game.

  1. He should have called Evans Kangwa instead. He is in prolific form at the moment in the Turkish League. Good news is that Victor Moses is out of the game against Zambia. But it may just open the door for the sensational Arsenal youngster Alex Iwobi

  2. I like the moves Wada is pulling so far. Kola deserves a chance. He has been in Europe since 2009 but we overlook this experience and prefer the Dakas and Salulani Phiris. Can you compare their experience to his. He has been overlooked , all along and its hard not to believe that there was a hidden hand that would influence the coach not to call him ! welcome back Kola.

    • Kola has never impressed me, his conversion rate is very very poor!!!!!I understand why previuos coaches overlooked him, perhaps Wada just wants to give him a rope to hung so that we forget about him forever!!!!!Hope I m wrong anyway!!!

      • yaa, on second thoughts, he has not been clinical on the chances he has been given, but he is better value to the team than some inexperienced players. But look at the mistakes we make – its now time to take full advantage of what Evans Kangwa has learnt but we are not calling him.

  3. Roger Kola is just one of the 2007 under 20 players who i think have not lived up their full potential.Hope he can again score against nigeria as he did in 2007.Jacob Banda’s poor judgement of aerial balls is very worrisome.I think Mweene is a better bet than Jacob.Whoever will be selected in the first eleven must put in their best. All the best to chipolopolo.

  4. KOLA is a plunk! Trust me, there is’nt anything special that he will bring to the squad. Never at any single moment has he impressed in a match! Him and former chipolopolo striker Andrew Tembo are the best examples of terrible strikers.

  5. Evans Kangwa, he bangs in 2 goals plus assist and yet he is being overlooked? Same old same crap. This is why we are not winning this game and others. Instead of us starting strong and winning all home games, we are starting lousy by not including players that are inform and get play time at their respective clubs like Kangwa or Mbola. This is ridiculous.

  6. This is a baffling selection to say the least. This kid has never had a good game in a Chipolopolo shirt or even at his club in recent years. Evans Kangwa would have been the right choice. I can understand letting Kangwa get settled at his club, but there is no better striker at the moment. The reason I say this is not just the brace he scored recently, but the young man has been scoring goals for multiple seasons in Israel and now in Turkey, yet we pick a player who has not found the back of the net in a year, and the guy calls himself a striker…smh. I just hope Wadda knows what he is doing.

  7. ur zambia coach is looking for experience players,, football is not in that era anymore most cauntries use kids.. The players u tink are experience are big flops.. If nigeria want to use experience players we would have called Osaze odewingie of (stoke city),, obafemi martins (sittle sounders), Ike uche (malaga) obi who plays for (inter milan) they are many but they are too old let the young players enjoy the game too

  8. Let us give the boy chance like we did to partson, chepeshi and others because its already too late for Kalulu to gel with the team at this time we have reached. Only 4 days remaining subtract flight period its too late. Ba coach should do more next match, let the technical bench involve Zamfoot bloggers to have 10% player selection. Faz should come up with a policy that can give fans to select players in one department. Chipolopolo iyeee

  9. In our local league we have walter bwalya who is scoring goals why not consider him?yes some people will say he is congolese but one of his parents is a zambian what is wrong with us zamnian failing to read between the lines

  10. I stand to be corrected Walter bwalya has a Zambian citizenship his Father is Zambian and mother Congo. Evance and kola I think kangwa is better but macha Lewis is better of all. Kalengo out he has lost form

  11. pastor wada is your time and because you are pastor no corruption needed to by chicken may our MIGHTY God give you wisdom to handle the national team wishing all the best Papa God bless you.

  12. Kola is a good striker , don’t look at the scoring part only but also on the movements a striker makes in the final third. You need players that can unlock defences , strikers who are not predictable like our Mbesuma. If you remember a game Zambia plated against Chile, even though we lost that match , Rodgers Kola came out top in that game . In 2007, his parternship with Fwayo and Mayuka was lethal.
