Kenya hold Congo for Group E to remain open

Zambia will breathe a sigh of relief after their 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying group was blown open when Kenya held Congo to a 1 – 1 draw away from home at the Stade Marien Ngouabi in Owando.

The Harambe Stars took the lead in the 10th minute through Were and had to make the group favorites work for their point.

Congo scored the equalizer from the spot in the 35th minute which was converted by Oniangue.

All teams in Zambia’s group are now level with a point each.

Zambia travel to Kenya in September for the second qualifying game in Group E.

    • @Paradox, I have just been watching the Congo vs Kenya match. It was even worse than Zambia vs Guinea Bissau. I couldn’t believe this is the Congo that beat Nigeria last year. I can tell you that all teams in this group including Zambia are useless. Its for any team to top the group now. There is no favourite in this group. That I can assure you.

    • Started giving positive opinion. Now trying to be the first person to do so. Good u are now heeding advice. This will help u develop positive thinking. You may grab VincentNorman Pearle’s book on positive thinking & will change your life for better for ever.

  1. Paradox our players are not average. The problem is a coach. How can you start patson daka, a kid, and play 2 defensive midfielders at home. Pathetic tactics sold us out.

  2. This group is very useless. Let us just fire that useless coach of ours and employ an expatriate. We wire all these teams.

  3. I ve seen all the teams in this group! They are all below average- very weak teams indeed, but with proper planning we can be head and shoulder above the rest!

  4. This is a real opportunity to bounce back . Mayuka and kola or Evans and sate sate strike force with a white coach on the bench i foresee Zambia qualifying .

    • I didn’t realise some of us were still in the dark ages of thinking white is better. An expatriate coach regardless of colour and with pedigree is what we need.

  5. Chicken had too much respect for the minors despite seeing how vulnerable they were. I am beginning to think the Tonga bull was even better. Why play a lone striker against a parked defense?

  6. The level of despondency being expressed here is alarming. We had a poor game but to conclude after one game that we will not qualify is a bit far fetched. This coach only had a few days with the lads, considering that circumstance he actually did well to not lose and actually dominate the game despite the end result.

Lets see what happens in September before we get overly despondent. Lets not get too dispirited too quickly people.

  7. If Zambia cant find a way to score goals then we are out. This more serious than ever before.

Zambia doesnt know how to score goals, ball possession yes scoring goals no!

We need someone from Europe to show us, goals are made abroad now. Not in Zambia..!

We are back worse than when we had mbesuma, chamanga and jacob falling over themselves but failing to hit the target. Thats a fact the team must face up to. We will be out and Zambia wont qualify for the first time donkeys years!!!

  8. Yes the problem in is all about having strikers who can score goals!!if only we can score goals then we can dream big!!scoring goals is a major problem in Zambian football currently being at club or national level!!coaches must focus more on this issue!

  9. The only ones to give us goals are: Evans Kangwa, Roger Kola, Sate Sate and Mayuka. We have very skillfull midfielders but non of them is a proven goal scorer. Ronaldo, Sanchez, Hazard, Mata to name a few are all midfielders but they score. I don’t remember when our master dribbler Chisamba scored for Zambia. If I were the coach, I’d try to convert midfieders like Lubambo into a striker. The coach shud oso consider callind Seth Sakala-he is a midfielder-cum striker who I believe can add depth to the team, otherwise we are in an easy group with no serious competition.
