Zambia national team captain Christopher Katongo has said he still has the desire to play and has a lot to give to the team.
Speaking during the pre-match media conference ahead of Zambia’s opening game against Zimbabwe at the on-going CHAN tournament, Katongo said his experience will add value to the team.
“I still have the desire to go and have lots to give to the team. I am happy with the team, the coach and my legs are still going good,” Katongo said.
“The experienced players bring great value to the team which will carry the squad forward and encourage the young players. The team is well balanced. Most important for us is team work.”
On the game against Zimbabwe, the 33 year old striker said the Chipolopolo are ready for the ‘Zambezi derby’.
“The team with more energy and desire will win. We are ready for the ‘derby’ against Zimbabwe. We need each other to win.”
The 2012 Africa Cup of Nations winning skipper has returned to the Chipolopolo squad to lead the team at the Rwanda CHAN tournament together with midfielder Isaac Chansa who was also part of the Africa Cup of Nations winning team.

Credit where it is due. I am one of FAZ critics most of the time, but for this tournament I have to admit they have done everything required. Good camp, early arrival in Rwanda. Generally good selection. Kalu and company should keep this up.
