Copper Queens midfielder Evarine Susan Katongo has received the Sports Award at the 5th annual PUSH Women Awards held at Intercontinental Hotel in Lusaka.
Katongo becomes the second Copper Queens player to be decorated the prestigious award following skipper Barbara Banda’s crowning in 2019.
From being U20 Skipper, Katongo has established herself in the core of coach Bruce Mwape’s team, and featured at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, the WAFCON in Morocco and the COSAFA Women’s Championship in South Africa where the Copper Queens emerged victorious.
The PUSH Women Awards are intended to influence impact and lead the way in recognising and celebrating the many achievements of Zambian women who have excelled in traditionally male dominated careers and industry.
Recipients of these awards are women from various sectors including the private and public services to business owners, who have achieved their success against all odds. These female trailblazers have broken glass ceilings, they work hard to remove barriers for other women and they are disrupting established industry norms through innovation.
