Kangwa Declares Copper Princesses Ready for Lionesses Showdown

Zambia U17 Girls National Team coach Kangwa Kaluba is confident that his side can turn their 2022 FIFA U17 World Cup Qualifiers around when they face Cameroon in the return leg of the third round on Saturday.

The Copper Princesses have work to do at the Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium in Yaounde two weeks after going down 2-0 in the first leg match at Nkoloma stadium in Lusaka, but Kaluba says his lasses were ready for the task ahead.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference Friday afternoon, Kangwa said the second leg offered Zambia an opportunity to make amends and win away from home.

“We are ready for the second leg; we know what we are supposed to do for us to overcome the challenge and we are ready for the task. There are so many plans we have put up for this match and I am sure you will be able to see them during the game tomorrow,” Kaluba said.

“We have to be very clinical on our side to overcome the challenge we had in the first leg, it will be very tactical and very entertaining to watch and (you will) realise that women’s football is growing so it will be a very interesting game on Saturday.”

Defender Esther Musialela said the Copper Princesses were looking forward to the return leg against the Lionesses. Kick-off will be at 16h30 CAT.

“Yes, we lost the first leg but it was a learning platform because it made us become more stronger and we are very much prepared for Saturday’s game,” Musialela said.

“You should expect a different game from the one we played in Zambia because we have come very prepared.”
