Kalaba shortlisted for CAF Award

Chipolopolo Boys captain Rainford Kalaba has been shortlisted for the CAF African Player of the Year -Africa based, CAF has announced.

The TP Mazembe midfielder is up against Sundowns duo Khama Billiat and Dennis Onyango.

Both Billiat and Onyango helped South African side Sundowns win the CAF Champions League while Kalaba’s goals led TP Mazembe to the CAF Confederations Cup triumph.

This is the second time Kalaba is being nominated for the award together with Stopilla Sunzu.

In 2012, following Zambia’s African Cup of Nations glory but the two Chipolopolo Boys saw the award go to Egypt’s Mohamed Aboutrika.

Gabonese midfielder Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Algeria Winger Riyad Mahrez and Senegalese Winger Sadio Mané have made the final top three for the 2014 African Player of the Year.

The trio made the cut following votes from Head Coaches or Technical Directors of the National Associations affiliated to CAF, Media Committee, Technical & Football committee and a panel of Media Experts.

  1. I hope Kalaba takes this one. The only disadvantage is that they won COnfed cup and Zambia failed to qualify to AFCON 2017. On the other hand, Onyango and Billiat won champions league and their respective national teams, Uganda and Zimbabwe qualified to AFCON 2016. If that will be a basis, then it’s gonna be tricky for the master.
