Kabange Mupopo happy to be a two sport Olympian…Exhilarated by move to China

Copper Queens forward Kabange Mupopo on Thursday became a two Sport Olympian after playing against the United States of America.

Mupopo put in a full shift as the Copper Queens suffered a huge 3-0 loss thanks to a Mallory Swanson brace and a Trinity Rodman brilliant goal.

TWO SPORT OLYMPIAN HAPPINESS

Mupopo said she felt good to be back at the Olympics for the second time in a different sport.

Mupopo made her Olympics debut as a 400-metre runner at the Rio 2016 Olympics.

“It feels good to be back here again , this time in Football and not athletics , so it’s really good,” she said.

EXCITED ABOUT CHINA MOVE

Mupopo has since completed a move to the China Taiping Women’s Super League joining Wuhan Chegu Jiangda.

The former Copper Queens skipper has penned a one year deal with Wuhan completing her switch from Zambian Champions, Green Buffaloes Women’s Football Club.

“It’s a big motivation for me. This is my first time going outside the country to play football,” she said.

TALKS AREAS OF WORK AHEAD OF AUSTRALIA SHOWDOWN

She feels the morale in camp is still high despite the 3-0 loss in the opening match of the ongoing Paris 2024 Olympics.

Mupopo says the team needs to work on their midfield and defence. She believes there is a need to improve both reaction to situations and the way the team is marking.

“The morale of the team is still high despite the loss. We just have to work hard and correct our mistakes from the first game,” she said.

“We need to work on how we react and mark. We need to improve a lot especially in midfield and defence.”

“Both teams want a win so it will be a tough game. We just have to do our best, especially in marking. “To my teammates, let’s work hard and do our level best,” she added.

The Copper Queens will face the Matildas of Australia tomorrow in the penultimate group match.

The match will kick-off at 19h00 at the Nice Stadium on Sunday, 28 July 2024. USA will face Germany in another group B match at the Orange Velodrome in Marseille.

The top two teams after matchday three will progress to the quarterfinals and will be joined by two best third-place teams to the tournament’s knockout stage.
