Junior Chipolopolo step up preparations for Comoros clash

Zambia’s Junior Chipolopolo have stepped up preparations for their crucial Group C encounter against Comoros in the 2026 TotalEnergies CAF Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations/COSAFA Qualifiers.

Coach Perry Mutapa’s side held their final training session at ABB 2 Stadium in Maputo on Sunday as they put the finishing touches to their preparations for the match.

Zambia opened their campaign with a 2-0 victory over Malawi, with substitute Billy Daka scoring both goals to give the Junior Chipolopolo a winning start.

The result leaves Zambia top of Group C on three points, two ahead of Comoros and Botswana, who played out a goalless draw on Saturday.

Mutapa used the final session to assess his squad and fine-tune his tactical approach ahead of a match that could strengthen Zambia’s position in the race for a semi-final place.

The Junior Chipolopolo have a strong recent record against Comoros at this level, winning both of their previous COSAFA Under-20 meetings. Zambia recorded 2-0 victories in the 2019 and 2020 editions of the competition.

Another victory would strengthen Zambia’s grip on top spot and put them in a favourable position ahead of their final Group C match against Botswana on 23 September.

Under the tournament regulations, the winners of Groups A, B and C will qualify for the semi-finals, along with the best-performing runner-up.

With qualification places at stake, Mutapa’s side will be aiming to maintain the momentum from their opening victory and take another step towards the knockout stages.
