Zambian winger Joseph Sabobo Banda has completed a four-year move to Armenian Premier League club Alashkert FC, linking up with Zambia U20 international Felix Phiri. The 20-year-old has previously featured for FC Zürich and Hapoel Be’er Sheva, and was part of Zambia’s squad at the recent Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The Zambian left winger has taken the next step in his European journey, completing a move to Armenian Premier League side Alashkert FC on a four-year deal.
The 20-year-old, who began his career in Zambia, will link up with Zambia U20 international Felix Phiri, who joined the club last month, giving the Armenian side a promising duo of young Zambian talent on the wings.
Sabobo first rose to prominence after starring for Zambia at the Cosafa Under-17 Championship in 2020 and 2021, where he was widely regarded as one of the tournament’s standout performers. His performances earned him trials at Barcelona and French Ligue 1 side Lille, before securing a move to Swiss club FC Zürich in January 2024.
After six months in Switzerland, Sabobo moved to Israeli side Hapoel Be’er Sheva in July 2025, where he signed a four-year contract and continued his development in a competitive European environment.
Internationally, Sabobo has made four appearances for the Zambia U20 national team and has already featured 14 times for the senior Chipolopolo side, scoring once. He was part of Zambia’s squad at the recent Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, gaining valuable experience at the highest continental level.

The boy is only 20 and has already had 4 clubs…3 of them in Europe and in the wrong direction. I just hope he settles somewhere where he can get adequate game time and flourish into the player and talent we all think he can be. Wishing him well in Armenia
