It’s a new dawn as Chipolopolo roar in World Cup Qualifiers

Zambia made a bright start in pursuit of a place at next year’s World Cup in Qatar with a hugely impressive away victory against Mauritania at the Olympic Stadium in Noukchott on Friday night.

Zambia collected maximum points thanks to goals from Captain Enock Mwepu and debutant Prince Mumba as the Chipolopolo boys sealed a 2-1 victory.

Brighton midfielder Mwepu blasted home from inside the box from the returning Edward Chilufya’s through ball in the 10th minute for his 4th international goal.

Patson Daka could have given Zambia a two goal caution but was denied from close range from the goalkeeper.

The hosts dominated play in the last 15 minutes of the first half with Zambian goalkeeper Cyril Chibwe impressing.

Kabwe Warriors’ Mumba got his debut goal in the 57th minute off a Lubambo Musonda maze run down the left flank.

Mauritania pulled one back in the 67th minute after left back Rodrick Kabwe felt to deal with a cross in the box to allow Amadou Niass to beat Chibwe in goal.

Beston Chambeshi’s side kept their discipline and nerve in a hostile environment in the final 10 minutes.

The win delighted Chambeshi and the Chipolopolo faithful in Lusaka.

Zambia now face a stern test Tunisia on Tuesday at Ndola’s Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in what would be the toughest match in the qualifiers.

Zambia XI: Cyril Chibwe – Benedict Chepeshi, Solomon Sakala, Dominic Chanda, Rodrick Kabwe – Boyd Musonda (Dickson Chapa ), Enock Mwepu, Prince Mumba (Benson Sakala )- Edward Chilufya (Spencer Sautu ), Patson Daka, Lubambo Musonda

  1. The team needs to improve lets not deceive ourselves. Yes we won but that’s not a team that can beat Tunisia either home or away. Our goalkeeper is very good and has improved.

  2. Mwepu gave a small bounce to the ball as he struck that. Computer! I think Patson also has a dissent game. The rest of the team was even more impressive. Everyone Chona Wamitengere on me!

  3. The zambian team didn’t play a good if they do improve in some grey areas, playing with tunisha will be like opening a pandoras box mark my words

  4. Good game in general. I think the coach must avoid the system of playing a lone striker as he did with Patson. Possibly play a 4-3-3 next time. Against better sides that can prove a minus to the attacking ability. Can FAZ also consider petitioning bad referring? Though we won many of the fouls and yellow cards smelt like subotage.

  5. Well played guys. But still shaky in the defence line.
    Alertness lacked in particular.
Hope the coaching department will work on that.
Also the goalkeeper lacks the command communication which used to be employed by the late Efford Chabala.

  6. Faz should change its objective and emulate from south Africa who are building for next world cup and afcon. Anything comes up its a bonus. The team its very promising though it needs some reinforcements. Kamanga should come open

    • It will never happen my brother. SA got Independence before us, Zambian but SA have been to the World Cup 3 times, my man. Ask yourself why it is so. Ba FAZ?? My man with Kamanga we will never get any where my friend

  7. Though we managed to win zambian had a poor game against Tunisia we need to improve in man department s especially midfield and defence.please remove in defence solomon sakala and Rodrick Kabwe for Tandi mwape and with that red arose number 3. Remove also Boyd mudonda for Benson sakala and include triple c and also kelvin mubanga kampamba. Follow this instructions or else we are loosing 3 to Tunisia. Tunisia 3 and Zambia 0.Chambeshi not a Good coach. Poor game reading poor substitution, poor team formation. Boyd is a finished player and solomon.

    • I love the players you have mentioned. Dont know this coach+++ Kelvin Kampamba is one of the best midfilders I have seen. I recall when we beat SA 2-0 in SA. He was good and so was Evans Kangwa. Dont know why these could not come, maybe CONVI crap, for sure Kingesly Kangwa, Evans Kangwa, Emmanuel Banda, and Lameck Banda can add value

  8. Boy Mudonda is not playing at his club Zanaco why bring him to nation team.bring player to national team who are playing regularly eg kelvin kapumbu who is a starter at no 6 at zanaco.,solomon is not a good good defender. Why leave Tandi mwape on bench, put solomon boyd bench and as soccer fans we do not want these two in their our nation. What critiriatia do use to pick player s for nation team . Do you pick player s because one played for under 20 five years ago or based on current performance. We chased muzungu because of poor select

  9. We have this Musonda boy to in the UK. He is a number 5 (centerback) him, Tandi and the other Zambian lad can make a strong diffence
