Italian Head of Mission Elisa Brandi has conferred with FAZ president Andrew Kamanga over possible collaborations in the development of the game.
Brandi, who was in the company of the mission’s cultural secretary Laura Rampazzo visited Football House and said the Italian mission was tracking developments in the Zambian game and would want to open avenues of cooperation with FAZ.
She said that her embassy was in the process of drawing a 2023 activity plan that was going to prioritize sports diplomacy on their roster.
“We are in the process of putting up our 2023 activity plan and we want to put sports and health diplomacy at the centre of this activity plan. We can try and host some tournaments for charity causes or also another option that we have used before is promoting networks with a match between the European Union and Zambian leaders,” Brandi said.
She said that her mission could also help unlock sponsorship opportunities from the Italian business community.
“We would also try and help find sponsorship opportunities from Italian businesses,” she said.
Brandi said that her country could offer possible technical support through their rich network of coaches.
And Kamanga thanked the Italina Head of Mission for opening their door to FAZ.
He said that there were a lot of opportunities for collaboration with FAZ especially with them women’s game.
Kamanga said with the women’s league fully operational in seven of the 10 provinces, it was open for sponsorship.
The FAZ chief said the technical support being touted by Italy could be spread across the various national teams for both men and women.
“For technical support, it is not just the senior men’s national team, we have many national teams starting at u15, u17, u20 and u23 which can benefit from this partnership,” he said.
Kamanga said that Italy was a powerhouse in the global game that Zambia could tap into.
He also hoped the collaboration will open the door for more Zambian players to play their trade in Serie and other leagues.
Currently Zambia’s Lameck Banda stars for Serie A outfit Lecce.
