International friendly: Gambia v Zambia

Zambia national team coach George Lwandamina has an almost full strength squad for the game against the ‘Scorpions’ of Gambia this evening.

Zambia on Friday lost 1 – 0 to Togo in Lome and the Chipolopolo will be seeking a morale boosting win against another West African opponent ahead of the all important Gabob 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Guinea Bissau.

Lwandamina will today welcome back Kennedy Mweene in goal while Davies Nkausu, Steven Kabamba, Adrian Chama and Stopilla Sunzu are expected to continue in defense.

Salulani Phiri, Paul Katema and Buchizya Mfune will be battle for a starting berth in the defensive midfield role while Chisamba Lungu who returns to the national team for the first time this year is expected to start in midfield together with Rainford Kalaba.

Evans Kangwa, Collins Mbesuma and Winstone Kalengo will lead the attack for Zambia going forward.

Gambia named a 24 man squad for the friendly against Chipolopolo.

Coach Sang Ndong named twenty-four players for the game: twelve players scouted from the domestic league, five players from the Senegalese league and seven from Abroad.

Zambia have a crucial match against group leaders Guinea Bissaue which they have to win to get their campaign for a place at the Gabon finals back on track.

The Scorpions on the other hand are set to use the international friendly against the Chipolopolo to prepare themselves for their 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifiers at home to South Africa on 4 June 2016, at the Independence Stadium in Bakau.

 A blow for Scorpions’ coach Sang Ndong as four foreign-based players- striker Babucarr Steve Trawally (Yanbian FC, China), defender Omar Colley (Djurgarden IF, Sweden), striker Pa Amat Dibba (GIF Sundvall, Sweden) and Yusupha Njie (FUS Rabat, Morocco) will not make it in his squad that will face the Chipolopolo of Zambia in today’s (Monday) international friendly.

The two teams have only met once before and Zambia won 2 – 0 in 1998 in an international friendly match with goals from Moses Sichone and Andrew Tembo.
