Home International friendly match on the cards for the Copper Queens

The Zambia Women’s national team will play an international friendly match at home before departure for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The ZamFoot Crew understands that the Copper Queens will face either a South American or European opponent at the National Heroes Stadium.

The Match has been pegged for February before the team heads for an international camp in Europe.

FAZ President Andrew Kamanga has confirmed that the team will have a send off match at home prior to departure for New Zealand.

Kamanga was speaking in his weekly update, the President’s corner and revealed that several top teams are eager to play the Copper Queens.

“We will do the same for the Copper Queens as they prepare for the World Cup. With the FIFA window coming up next month, our World Cup bound Copper Queens will be in action with several prospective opponents already on the table. Our plan is to host an international friendly on home soil for the Copper Queens as part of staging a befitting send-off before the ever-supportive home fans.”

“We have several top teams looking to test themselves against the Copper Queens. With all our top players now available for selection for national duty, we have no doubt that we will have a stronger team.”

The ZamFoot Crew understands that the Copper Queens could face Argentina’s La Albiceleste, the 2006 CONMEBOL Copa América Femenina Champions who are ranked 29th in the World.

Previously the Copper Queens have managed to secure friendly games with Great Britain and Netherlands but could not play them due to COVID-19 travel restrictions and travel arrangement glitches respectively.

The Copper Queens came from a goal down to beat Chile 2-1 back in 2020 and more recently lost to Colombia in November, 2022.

Bruce Mwape’s lasses will be using the match to prepare for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup to be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand.

The Copper Queens are in Group C alongside Spain, Japan and Costa Rica at the ninth edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
