Hamburger SV unveil Chipolopolo Boys forward Patson Daka

Germany Bundesliga side Hamburger SV has officially unveiled Chipolopolo Boys forward Patson Daka as the Zambian international starts a new chapter.

Daka has  joined Die Rothosen as a free agent following the end of his five year stint  with former EPL Champions, Leicester City.

HSV took to social media to confirm the acquisition of the former Kafue Celtic player.

“HSV have strengthened their attack by signing striker Patson Daka. The 27-year-old forward, who spent the last five years with English club Leicester City, successfully completed his medical examination on Tuesday morning (21 July) at the Athleticum in Volkspark. He then travelled to the club’s pre-season training camp in Austria, where he signed his contract later that evening.”

The Zambia international, who has earned 47 caps and scored 21 goals for the 2012 AFCON winners, will wear the No. 27 shirt at HSV.

HSV Sporting Director Kathleen Krüger says the Zambian international fits the profile tej club has been looking for.

“We have specifically strengthened our centre-forward position with the signing of Patson. He perfectly fits the profile we were looking for. He shows great commitment both in and out of possession, works tirelessly for the team, and brings a wealth of experience at the international level. We are convinced that Patson’s qualities will help our team immediately, and we are delighted to welcome him to HSV,” Kathleen Krüger said.

Meanwhile HSV Director of Professional Football Claus Costa added:

“Patson has many of the qualities we need in our style of play. He combines energy, pace and intelligent runs in behind with a high work rate when pressing. That gives us additional options both in our pressing game and in transitions. During our conversations, Patson impressed us as a thoughtful, humble and ambitious person. We are very pleased that he is now part of the HSV family.”

Daka hasl put pen to paper on a one-year deal with an option for a further 12 months.

Daka spent five years in England. He joined Leicester from FC Red Bull Salzburg in 2021 for a reported €30 million fee — a record transfer involving a Zambian player at the time.

Since arriving in England, the Chipolopolo forward scored 29 goals and registered 18 assists in 166 appearances across all competitions.

He was also part of the Leicester squad that won the FA Community Shield and remains the club’s all-time leading scorer in European competitions.
