Heegan 0-2 Green Eagles (K Musonda, S Sautu)
Zambia’s representatives at the 2019 Cecafa Kagame Cup, Green Eagles started their campaign on a strong note with a 2 – 0 win over Somalian club Heegan.
A goal on either side of the half from Kennedy Musonda and Spencer Sautu gave the Choma based side maximum points on the day.
2019 Cosafa Cup winning coach, Aggrey Chiyangi named a strong team for the opening game of the tournament and his lads dominated the game from the start, looking tactically superior. Despite their dominance, they were disjoint in the final third and failed to make good of the openings they were creating.
Sautu was looking dangerous on the left flank and he was unfortunate to see his shot from the left side of the box punched out for a corner in the 24th minute.
Musonda rose high to guide his header into the net from the resultant corner in the 26th minute for the opener on the day.
The second goal came in the 53rd minute when an out-swinging free kick from the right found Sautu at the back post whose header came off the ground to beat the goalkeeper at his near post.
The 2019 Zambian Super League runners continued to dominate the game with Sebastian Mwange in goal hardly having a save to make.
In the other game of Group C, three-time winners APR of Rwanda netted a late injury time goal to secure victory over Proline of Uganda.
Skipper Manzi Thierry finished off a rebound from a free-kick in the 4th minute of injury time.
Eagles end match-day one on top of Group C on goal difference as they prepare to face APR in a top of the table showdown on Monday at 15h30.
