Zambia’s representatives in the Inaugural COSAFA Women’s Inter-Club Champions League are optimistic and have high hopes ahead of the tournament which kicks off on Thursday.
Striker Maylan Mulenga says the teams’ target is to reach the final while on a personal level she has set her sights on the golden boot or best player accolade.
“We have prepared well, and we are ready to face any team. I aim to come out as the best player or win the golden boot,” she said.
” We need to put in the extra effort. Our target is to reach the final. The first game will determine how far we will reach.”
Meanwhile, defender Agness Musesa believes the team will fight and conquer South Africa.
The tournament will take place from 26th August to 4th September 2021.
“It’s been good, we have been preparing well, we are going to fight and conquer definitely. The morale is high in the camp, this being the first time, we just have to ask the fans and the country to support us,” Musesa said.
” We are going there to do our level best. We are going there to win. All the teams are prepared so we don’t have to underrate any team. In the first game, our target is to carry maximum points.”
Copper Queens midfielder Irene ‘Xavi’ Lungu says the team wants to win the tournament to represent the region at the Continental showpiece.
“The preparations have been going well. What we want to achieve is to come out first and represent COSAFA at the CAF Champions League,” she said.
“The experience we have is good. I also want to wish well to my teammates.”
” We can’t underrate any team we just have to play our game and be focused,” she added.
