Green Buffaloes have qualified for the 2025 ABSA Cup despite not being in action.

The Zambia army sponsored outfit qualified after Lumwana Radiants edged Nkwazi 1-0.

William Kamwanga’s late strike was enough to deny Nkwazi a place who just needed a draw to secure a place as the seventh Super League team.

Buffaloes join ZESCO United, Kabwe Warriors,  Nkana, Power Dynamos,  Red Arrows  and  Green Eagles as the team’s from the Super League who have qualified.

Buffaloes have been poor in the last five games losing two and drawing three hence this qualification will be a welcome relief for Masauso Tembo and his technical bench.

Last year, ABSA Bank Zambia and the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) announced a new format which sees 21 teams take part

10 Provincial Teams, 7 Super League sides and 4 from the National Division One.

A package of K5.5 million sponsorship went into the 2024 ABSA Cup.

The Winners of the 2024 ABSA Cup pocketed K800, 000, the runners up got K350,000.

The player of the tournament, the top goalscorer and the best goalkeeper pocketed K25,000 each and was sponsored by ABSA Life.

The player of the match walked away with K5,000 in the preliminary stage and K15,000 from the quarter final stage.

Travel subsidies for the participating teams last year varied between K15,000 to K30,000.
