Green Buffaloes Halt Nkana’s Charge as Kabwe Warriors Run Riot in Week 20

Green Buffaloes and Kabwe Warriors delivered two statement performances on Saturday as Week 20 of the MTN Super League produced drama, goals and major shifts on the log.

Buffaloes Sting Nkana to End Five-Match Run

Green Buffaloes produced a disciplined and inspired display to edge Nkana 1-0 at a packed Reiz Arena, bringing an abrupt end to the 14-time champions’ five-match winning streak.

The contest was finely balanced for long spells, with Nkana enjoying more of the ball while Buffaloes remained compact and patient.

The decisive moment arrived in the 76th minute when Francis Mwenya produced a moment of quality—curling a sublime effort beyond goalkeeper Patrick Chooma to spark wild celebrations among the home faithful.

Buffaloes’ game management thereafter was exemplary. They closed ranks, denied Nkana clear openings, and saw out the result with maturity.

The victory lifts Green Buffaloes to ninth place on the standings, while Nkana slip to 10th, a reminder of how unforgiving the league can be when momentum stalls.

Kabwe Warriors Hand Nkwazi a Valentine’s Day Hammering

Earlier at Godfrey Ucar Chitalu Stadium, Kabwe Warriors were ruthless as they swept aside Nkwazi 4-0 to register their biggest win of the season.

The “Magnificent People’s Team” wasted no time asserting control. Saith Sakala opened the scoring in the 8th minute, rising highest to head home a pinpoint Charles Sichilima corner. Sakala doubled the advantage on 32 minutes from the penalty spot after a foul on Obashi in the area.

Warriors continued to pour forward and were rewarded again just before the break. Simon Tonga capped a flowing move with a classic finish following a delightful assist from Humphrey Bwembya. The rout was completed late on when Jackson Kampamba made it four in the 89th minute.

The emphatic win propels Kabwe Warriors up to fifth place on 30 points, underlining their growing confidence and attacking potency. For Nkwazi, however, the heavy defeat leaves them marooned in the relegation zone, with urgent answers needed as the season gathers pace.
