Zambian Champions, Green Buffaloes women’s football club may just be a win away from qualifying to the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League.
This follows clarification from COSAFA that the Southern region will have two representatives with Mamelodi Sundowns already qualified as Champions of last year’s edition.
According to a statement from COSAFA monitored by the ZamFoot Crew, the winners of the COSAFA Women’s Champions League Zonal qualifier or the runner up in the instance that Mamelodi Sundowns win it will join Masandawana in Morocco later this year.
Should Buffaloes reach the final tomorrow and Sundowns beat Double Action then the Zambian Champions will seal their place in Morocco before even playing the final.
Should Another team (aside Sundowns) top group A then Buffaloes will have to win the final to confirm their place in the CAF Women’s Champions League.
“Following media queries, COSAFA would like to clarify the situation around qualification for the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League in Morocco later this year. Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies, as continental champions, will automatically qualify for the finals in Morocco, along with the winner of the HOLLYWOODBETS COSAFA Women’s Champions League.
Should Sundowns successfully retain their COSAFA regional title, then the runner-up in Saturday’s final will also qualify for the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League.”
The top team in each of the two groups at the COSAFA Women’s Champions League will advance to Saturday’s final, with one round of matches played so far. Sundowns defeated Costa so Sol 8-1 in Group A on Sunday, while Green Buffaloes beat Young Buffaloes 4-0 in Group B.
The Group B leaders return to action tomorrow with a clash against Comoros debutantes Olympique de Moroni at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium with kick off set at 15h30.
