Copper Bullets coach Avram Grant believes Zambia deserved a point against Niger in a Group E FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifier.
The Southern Africa giants suffered a 2-1 shock defeat to Niger at Morocco’s Stade de Marrakech on Tuesday.
The 68 year old has also congratulated the West Africans.
“We didn’t play our normal game, even though I think we deserved a draw but there is no deserving in football, they scored two goals and we scored one,” he said
“They fought very well, congratulations to them.
Grant’s unbeaten record in competitive matches since he took over in December 2022 ended on Tuesday.
“It’s the first time the team is losing under me, so the most important thing is to recover and when we recover we will have a good team.”
I said it that we need to work on our defense its never too late for the technical team to consider other players who can solidify the defence, failure to do that then let us forget about qualifying to the world cup
The coach needs to use his long experience to find and field the correct players, players who are fighters like Lameck Banda Kampampa of Zesco. So far it’s like his team selection is being influenced by a third force. He should no longer play names, for example Patson Daka doesn’t deserve 90 minutes play time any more because his contribution in games is becoming less and less! He needs to compete with others! Daka can be starting from the bench sometimes and put in when the opposing players are a bit tired so that he outruns them . Actually the coach needs to make sure that all places are competitive. Even Sunzu is a bit slow now so he doesn’t need to play full 90 minutes in every game.
@GM spot on ! We have voiced that on several occasions. We have Maika trading in States , the youngster Katongo playing in Championship League in English soccer and others . I think with the experienced Sunzu these young boys they can solidify the defence .

Sunzu cant match up with the pace of fast running strikers. Better nature and use young defenders in the league.
