GBFC with late winner as Tigers stare relegation

Green Buffaloes consolidated their 5th position on the FAZ MTN Super League table when they scored a late winner against a resolute Lumwana Radiants.

Radiants will feel hard done after they took the game to the hosts but failed to find the net.

Just when the game seemed to be heading for a draw, Radiants conceded a penalty which was ably converted by Jack Chirwa in the 90th minute.

Buffaloes move to 48 points on the table.

Fazfootball reports that Lusaka Tigers prospects of surviving relegation from the MTN FAZ Super League decreased as they lost 2-1 at home to Forest Rangers in a Week 29 match played at Independence Stadium on Sunday.

The Matero-based side can only get up to 37 points in the event that they won their remaining five fixtures.

Their troubles on Sunday started when Logic Ching’andu picked a spot from a loose ball inside the box to give the visitors a 1-0 lead at the break.

Graven Chitalu made it 2-0 on 57 minutes but substitute Chibesa Chanda reduced the deficit with nine minutes on the clock when he scored from the penalty spot.

There was no time for another goal as Forest Rangers held on to a 2-1 victory that pushed them up to eighth on the standings with 40 points.

Tigers have a tough run-in as two of their opponents in their next five matches are in the relegation zone while three are in the top half of the table.

They threw their chances of survival out of the window with Sunday’s defeat as they need to supplant Green Eagles (31 points), Nchanga Rangers (33), Lumwana Radiants (33), Nakambala Leopards (34) and Nkwazi (35) in order to stay up, a feat which looks unlikely considering the kind of opposition they have to face in their run-in. They also have a goal difference of -26 that is always working against them.

They finish the season with matches against Green Eagles (H), Mufulira Blackpool (A), Kabwe Warriors (H), Power Dynamos (H) as well as a Week 10 rescheduled fixture against Zesco United (A).

Mufulira Blackpool have already been relegated from the Super League. They will be joined by three more teams at the end of the season.
