Gabon Disaster Chronicles: Find my replacement, Charles Musonda tells coaches

Belgium based midfield architect Charles Musonda has said the national team coaches Godfrey ‘Ucar’ Chitalu and Alex Chola should start grooming up a replacement for him whom they can feature and easily relay on whenever he is unavailable.

“This is evident that I will not available for each and every match and the coaches should try to establish someone who plays like me to fill up,” Musonda said.

Musonda said in a telephone interview from his apartment in Brussels that it was high time that one or two players were singled out in order to ensure the midfield problem was sorted out whenever he was not available.

He was commenting on the problems faced in the midfield between Zambia and Zimbabwe where Chitalu used Samuel Chomba at six and later on substituted him for Wisdom Chansa.

Musonda said that in his view, the coaches would continue to facing the midfield problem the midfield problem in his absence if they used the combination of of Derby Makinka ay eight and Chomba or Chansa at six.

“Basically Derby and Chomba are aggressive fighters who need a playmaker like me to combine with. You cannot have two fighters or two playmakers playing in midfield roles in one game. You have to have one.,” Musonda said

He suggested that that Profund Warriors’ [now Napsa Stars] Patrick ‘Bomber’ Banda be given special attention as possible replacement and be given as much exposure.

With Chomba in midfield, Robert Watyakeni partnered Estone Mulenga in midfield.

After playing Zimbabwe, Zambia’s next match was against Mauritius before a trip to West Africa against Senegal.
