Forest Rangers win their first ABSA Cup title

Forest Rangers edged FC MUZA to clinch their first ABSA Cup title following a 2-0 win on Saturday at Woodlands Stadium in Lusaka. 

On the day the Football Association of Zambia introduced the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology in the country, Forest Rangers proved too strong for FC MUZA. 

Chanda Chileshe scored an own goal after a cross from the left wing to put Forest Rangers in the lead. 

Early in the second half, Forest Rangers thought they had doubled the lead after Moro Amenu found the back of the net but VAR review showed a foul in the build up and the goal was disallowed. 

However Forest Rangers were two nil up in the 62nd minute as Quadri Kola did well to beat a defender and a goalkeeper before slotting home in the box. 

FC MUZA tried to push with a late charge but Forest Rangers held on to win the match. 

Fole Malembe, the new champions of this lucrative competition, with a prize pool of 4.4 million, will be awarded K700,000, while the runners-up, FC MUZA will receive K350,000. 

Moro Amenu has been named as the man of the match following his impressive showing and will walk away with K15,000.
