It was the host team, Red Arrows that topped group B in the inaugural FAZ Lusaka Women’s Cup Competition.
Bauleni United started the campaign with a 5-1 victory over Luyando Foundation with U20 national team players Regina Chanda finding the back of the net five times for Bauleni and Evarine Katongo scoring the consolation goal for Luyando.
The second game saw Red Arrows beating National Assembly with a convincing 4nil scoreline. Goals came from Iless Phiri, Hellen Mubanga and Prisca Bwalya who scored a brace.
In the third and final game of the first day, the National Assembly took on Luyando in what was more of a redemption game. They beat Luyando by a margin of 6 goals to one. U20 striker Matilda Muluka was the goal scorer for Luyando while the assembly’s goals came from Musonda Chimfwembe x2, Christine Zimba x2, Donaria Simaundu, and Grace Mulaisho.
Arrows continued from where they left from on Saturday by collecting maximum points in the first game of the day on Sunday which was against Bauleni.
The Airwomen beat the youthful Bauleni side 3-0 with goals from Milika Limwanya, Mary Wilombe and U-20 forward Ochumba Oseke Lubanji.
Bauleni United and National Assembly shared spoils in the second game in a mouth-watering encounter. Bauleni took the lead in the first half through Regina Chanda while Assembly equalized in the second half through substitute Christine Zimba. The game ended in a 1-1 draw.
Luyando did not show up for the third game hence Red arrows were given 3 points and 3 goals. Red Arrows was the only team to have not conceded a goal in Group B.
The current format allows only one team to qualify hence Arrows will progress to the semifinals but however, discussions are underway to make it two teams per group which gives Assembly a slight chance to qualify to the Quarterfinals.
