Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Women’s Super League enters week 8 this weekend with seven mouthwatering encounters expected to be played across the country in Lusaka and Copperbelt Provinces.
Joint log leaders Green Buffaloes Women Football Club will have a stern test against Red Arrows in Arguably the game of the weekend at the Green Square Ground in Arakan Barracks in Lusaka.
Both teams are unbeaten so far and it will really be exciting to see who comes out with bragging rights in this Defence Force derby when they face each other.
In their last 5 meetings since 2018, The Green Army has been dominant winning all the games scoring a remarkable 17 goals against 1 for Arrows and they will be hoping to extend their superiority in this crunch encounter tomorrow.
The ZamFoot Crew spoke to Buffaloes defender Atness Phiri to find out what her thoughts are regards this particular match.
“We are very much ready for this game, we have been preparing for a long time now even before this league started and we keep on improving in every game we play and we know Red Arrows is a big team and they are strong but we are ready for them because we are always working hard in training so we will definitely deliver in tomorrow’s game,” Phiri said.
Second-placed Lusaka Dynamos have taken a very long trip to Kitwe where they are scheduled to face struggling Nkana Queens in a game that might just be another free walk in the park for the unbeaten Elite Ladies but of course without taking anything away from the Red Queens who will push for their first victory of the season.
Elite Ladies attacking midfielder Towela Nkhata told the ZamFoot Crew that they are not underrating any team and that they are ready for the game and all they want is to collect maximum points.
“What we need is to come back with 3 points, we know it’s not going to be easy but we will do our best,” Nkhata said.
“We are not underrating any team in the league all we are doing is to play each game as if it’s a final for us to collect maximum points,” she added.
Still, on the Copperbelt Province, Mufulira Wanderers will play host to Queens Academy at Shinde Stadium in a redemption match as both sides will be fighting for maximum points having suffered defeats in their previous matches.
In a lunchtime Kick-off in the friendly city of Ndola, Zesco Ndola Girls will welcome Bauleni United Sports Academy (BUSA) Queens in a battle of Goliath and David.
This will be the first-ever meeting between these two sides so expectations are very high and that is why Zegalicious Goalminder Leticia Lungu is looking forward to maintaining her fourth straight clean sheet in this exciting fixture.
“We will be having a tough game tomorrow against BUSA, but we will work extra hard no matter what happens because we have never played with them before but we have watched how they play, they are a good side indeed they play well so it’s not going to be easy but we are ready for this game,” Lungu said.
Meanwhile, BUSA Queens midfielder Grace Phiri said they will not be intimidated by Zesco.
“We are ready to take on Zesco tomorrow, they are a big team in Zambian Women’s Football but we are not scared to face them and we are going to give them a good run at their home ground,” she said.
“We are looking forward to a positive result in Ndola,” Phiri added.
At the Showgrounds, draw specialists National Assembly will have a tricky tie against Nkwazi Queens in a Lusaka Derby as we await to see who will command the proceedings well in Parliament.
Assembly will be hoping to carry on their winning streak but facing Nkwazi will be an uphill battle as the Police sponsored side are angry for victory after they lost to Zesco last weekend so in this match it may go either way.
Week 8 action will continue on Sunday afternoon in the capital city Lusaka with two intriguing encounters.
Another draw specialist in YASA Queens will have to brace themselves for a very tough task against Indeni Roses at Hospice Ground in a super Sunday Clash.
This will be the first meeting between Stubborn YASA and Rejuvenated Oilo Ladies who have been impressive in this campaign and this might just be another tricky tie that might go either way.
At Independence Stadium, Zambia Institute for Sustainable Development (ZISD) Women Football Club will take on Police Dove Queens in an exciting game between two sides who will be testing each other’s strength as a result of their run in this season so far which has not been good enough and this will be the time to redeem themselves in this fair fixture.
