FAZ ANNOUNCES NATIONWIDE PLAYER SELECTION EXERCISE

Following the Executive Committee meeting held on July 19, 2024, the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) met to consider a recommendation by the Technical Committee to hold a countrywide player selection exercise.

FAZ General Secretary Reuben Kamanga says the Executive Committee had adopted the proposal by the Technical Committee with the process expected to commence soon.

“The countrywide selection for male players will see two streams of teams converging in Lusaka for Southern, Lusaka, Central, Eastern and Western provinces while the other batch will have Copperbelt, North Western, Northern, Luapula and Muchinga,” says Kamanga.

“The best players from the provincial teams will face off with each other with the best squad selected to face the national team in an All Stars Versus the Rest format.”

Kamanga says the best from the select side may have a chance to be drafted in the national team set up.

“We encourage the technical experts in the provinces to bring to the fore some of the much talked about rural talent that can be brought to the attention of national selectors,” he says.

Kamanga says the exercise will be embedded in the Technical Director’s wider program to ensure that no prospective talent is left out.

  1. This is just a useless expensive venture! FAZ is supposed to encourage men’s football clubs to go in search of talent through out the country, which can be harnessed into the men’s national team! The biggest problem that has negatively affected the men’s national team performance is calibre of players in super league teams! Ayengi makula! This is because there are are too many useless foreign players, and unfortunately most of them out perform our own. So the best that can be done is to limit number of foreign players per club to 3, and that only 2 can be featured in a particular game at a time. This will encourage more competition among local players! And hence bring out the best players! It’s difficult to understand why FAZ is failing to implement changes limiting of foreign players per football club.

  2. POINTLESS the country should just withdraw male national football teams from all competitions till further notice. Let us just concentrate on the ladies and the girls. Clearly, there lays the progress.

    # Increase the pay for the girls too ☆☆☆☆☆

Let the men continue playing for themselves at club level.
