FAZ MOURNS COACH MFEDE

The Football Association of Zambia joins Indeni Roses FC in mourning Coach Robson ‘Mfede’ Simukonde.

FAZ President Andrew Kamanga and the Executive Committee are saddened to learn of the loss of Coach Mfede who contributed greatly towards women’s football development in Zambia.

Coach Mfede, as he was popularly known, passed away in Ndola following an illness.

During his football career, Simukonde played for the likes of Zesco United, Ndola United, Nitrogen Stars, Green Buffaloes and got the nick name Mfede after the former Cameroon international player of the 1990 squad, Louis Paul Mfede.

Coach Mfede also had a stint in South Africa where he played for teams like Harankuwa Stars and Mabopane Young Stars before he retired and went into coaching.

After spending over a decade in South Africa, Simukonde returned to Zambia where he briefly coached the Zesco United’s women team before he was tasked to form the Indeni women’s football team in 2014.

His death is a great loss to the football fraternity and the association prays for God’s comfort to his family in this trying time.
