The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has declared the funds raised from gate takings in the midweek fixture which saw Zambia play Congo Brazaville at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium last week.
According to the Times of Zambia, FAZ treasurer Rixie Mweemba declared a profit of K873,000.
FAZ raised about K1.5 million with total expenses for the match going up to K583,000 resulting into the association realising K873,000 profit.
Newly elected FAZ president Andrew Kamanga promised to be transparent in handling gate takings and other financial dealings at Football House and stated that his association will implement compu-ticketing.
I like the way the new FAZ executive is being open. Way to Go! But I’m baffled I thought this was a free match as per directive from Plot 1. How did they make some money from gate takings? I know the could have made some money from commercials and other adds from some companies in the stadium. But gate takings? VIP sitting maybe?
Please let us know if the Association will be repaid for loss of gate takings from the masses that entered free. That’s what we need to know. The state needs to pay back the association otherwise the Association will end up in serious debt.

Change is important I can already see good organisation. They are rumours circulating that we are about to get a world class coach. Winifred schafer the man who won afcon with Cameroon in 2002 and current Jamaica coach is rumoured to be at the top of the list.

Honestly, Ba bwana, Claude Le Roy is way past his sell-by date in Africa. Long are gone his midas touch years…with ghana, first stint with DRC… His last 2 employers (DRC/2nd stint and Congo of Kalengo) fired him for poor results. The point was so well driven home to him when his replacement in DRC, a Frenchman of Congolese origin, comprehensively beat his Congo/Brazza selection. It was sad to see him cut a forlorn black figure (only wears black) on the touchline that afternoon as his team was being taught a soccer lesson. Mudala napwa!
It would be regrettable if Plot 1 paid for those seats. We expect the President to show more compassion for Zambians who are hungry or dying of malaria or that money could even be loaned to an exceptional student who can’t finish his studies because he has no money.

If the Plot 1 allowed free entrance, then that’s good for sportsmanship by him and I know if he can give directive to start giving relief food, use some funds for medication or loaned it to poor students, all the same you look for another defect to find problems on him. Some people bought tickets.others entered courtesy of our head of state thats why the stadium was so fool midweek and on the copperbelt where the economy is not doing well at the moment.Now did the president pay for the tickets or not. How much did he pay FAZ? I guess the principle here is transparency. Thats ok but to FAZ, a word of caution,the danger of acts of appeasement is that you may lose sight of a bigger picture! Some of us soccer lovers have switched to watching other sports until harmony returns to soccer.It appears the battle lines are still on even when elections are over.

The way people steal from organizations is by making up expenses and other. President Kamanga is an accountant and he knows what I am talking about. So, there is still secret there.

It is somehow difficult to declare a profit for one game without categorically going through the expense line. If each game is treated as a Project then I can bet the reported profit is misstated and misleading. For instance if we say for goodness’ sake; all costs related to one game are pooled together then net-off from the ticket revenue then I expect a little bit of a positive number posted. So expense lines am wondering if they are included in the summation: players flight including intra, players accommodation and food, service providers fees, match commissioners expenses, security fees, hire & transport, stadium fee, support staff food & accommodation, advertising. Let us be very careful not to put across these numbers in a hurry! Its just my School of thought unless there is a slash fund somewhere for other perquisites to enable new FAZ declare “PROFIT”. How?

Excellent analysis WIN. The so called new FAZ President and the treasurer should stop fooling people. We are dealing with figures here. How many tickets were printed and sold. Are all expenses tabulated.This is just a gimmick and an attempt to paint the previous office bearers red/black. but thats common in Africa and thats why our standing at the world stage is pathetic as a continent
