Fashion scores his first goal for Oostende; Mwepu plays in defence for Salzburg

The Zambia international striker scored the fourth goal  as a second half substitute as his new Belgian club Oostende overcame SV Zulte-Waregem 4-1.

Wearing shirt no.7, Sakala who signed a three year deal with Oostende from Spartak Moscow netted in the 70th minute just 10 minutes after being introduced.

The club announced thus on its website: “The first goal of the Zambian in Ostend salaried employment. Immediately also the final score of this very pleasant exercise pot.”

International teammate Emmanuel Banda was not involved in the match as he is still nursing an injury.

In Austria, Patson Daka and Enock Mwepu started in Red Bull Salzburg’s 3-0 win over French side Stade Rennes.

Salzburg played in a 4-4-2 formation with Daka as a twin striker while Mwepu played in central defence.

All the three goals were scored in the second half.

The two players are using pre-season to cement their position in the main team after featuring mostly for Liefering last season.

  1. Its good that mwepu is learning the defensive aspects of the game. It means he could be deployed as defensive midfielder for the chipolopolo in the future. Its good news to me.

    • I said this long ago that if Mwepu want to be a star, he has to drop to defensive midfielder, then at 25 to central defense like Stophila did.
If he keep central defense, he will see himself at Manchester United in season.
Emmanuel Banda should also drop to left back, number 3. And you all know Zambia has only 1 defender, Stophola Sunzu. And no goalkeeper.

  2. Young players will go through everything. He has to stay on top of things. He smiles alot too. That’s a good spirit.

  3. i still feel Mwepu should play as an attacking midfielder. he is a very intelligent creative player who can create and score goals. he is being misplaced at this club and soon he will loose focus.

    • Lets give the technical bench at Salzburg some credit. They are after all the technical bench of a really big club so it cant be that they don’t know what they are doing.

  4. Now this is the news we need to hear going into the next round of Afcon qualifiers. Well done guys.

Also good to hear that Mwepu is showing such versatility. Yes we know he is a box to box midfielder but even then, we have never really seen him take serious defensive tackles but I guess he must be doing something really special for the technical bench to try such a switch for a player who is an excellent supplier.

    Well done lads
