Evarine Susan Katongo to start in midfield against Ireland

The Zambia Women’s National Team will square off with the Republic of Ireland this evening in an international friendly match.

The match is part of both team’s preparations for the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Coach Bruce Mwape will be looking for a positive result at the Tallaght Stadium in Dublin to follow up from the 1-0 win over Tanzania at home.

Evarine Susan Katongo was the fan favourite at Woodlands Stadium and will be expected to continue in midfield.

Katongo showed a lot of brilliance and hardwork in midfield controlling the tempo and pace of the match against the East African side.

The former Zambia U-20 National Team skipper was a key member of the squad that finished third at the 2022 WAFCON to mint bronze and the COSAFA Championship winning squad.

The Luyando Foundation Girls product could be partnered by Red Arrows’ Susan Banda, Mary Wilombe or Rhoda Chileshe of Indeni Roses.

Playing against the 22nd highest ranked team in the World means Katongo and company will have to pull off one of their best performances yet to get a result in this match.

The Copper Queens and the Girls in Green will be using the match to prepare for their debut appearance at the FIFA Women’s World Cup and the sold-out game will be played under the Tallaght lights at 20h30CAT.
