Emmanuel Amunike’s 194 days at Zanaco

Zambia Super League side, Sensational Zanaco officially unveiled Nigeria Super Eagles Legend Emmanuel Amunike as a consultant to the Kelvin Kaindu led technical bench on 29th September, 2022.

The Bankers confirmed Amunike and his assistant Emeka Amadi’s appointment as a consultant with the aim of helping Kaindu turn around fortunes at Sunset Stadium.

After six months and 13 days, the 2016 Super League Champions separated on mutual consent with the Nigerian gaffer.

The ZamFoot Crew now looks at Amunike’s 194 days (53.15% of a common year (365 days) at Zanaco.

His first game as a consultant for the technical bench was a 1-1 draw with Red Arrows at Sunset Stadium after back to back losses (under Kaindu).

Next up for Amunike was Nkwazi who held them to a goalless draw but the third game was a charm as his side recorded a 1-0 win over Lumwana Radiants.

However a 2-1 loss away in Choma gave Amunike his first test of defeat in Zambia.

The Bankers then went on a nine game unbeaten run but only won four games in that period collecting only 17 points from a possible 27.

The decline then kicked in as they went on to win just one of their next ten games with six ending in defeats.

In total Amunike was in charge for 23 games recording six wins, seven losses and ten draws.

The Bankers picked up only 28 points from a possible 69 points which left them just three points away from the relegation Zone.

After 23 games, the Zanaco management decided to cut their ties and have since appointed former Chipolopolo boss Wedson Nyirenda as interim head coach.

Nyirenda’s first game in charge came on Sunday away to his former side ZESCO United, a match the Bankers lost 3-2.
