99 is amongst football’s weirdest numbers to carry on your back as a player but at Forest Rangers, it is turning out to be something special.
Ghanaian striker Adams Zikiru was the first player at the club to don the number 99 after he joined on loan from Zesco United.
At Forest, he had a two fruitful seasons winning the club’s top scorer award on two occasions, and also managing to tuck in the golden boot in the league during the transition season.
His departure was not the last we saw of the kit number 99 as a certain Thomas Bright Chideu from Harare has stepped in now.
Chideu is yet to hit the heights that Zikiru reached at the club but seems to be following the footsteps if his current form is anything to go by.
Zikiru scored a total of 25 goals during his stint at Forest and Chideu is already at 7 (2 last season & 5 so far this season.)
Famed as Rihanna by his fans, Chideu is enjoying some good form that has seen him, quickly move to the top of the Forest Rangers score sheet, having scored 5 goals in 5 matches this season.
Chideu with the help of his teammates has managed to breach the Indeni, Zesco, Kansanshi and Buffaloes defences in the last couple games.
With only 5 games played this season Chideu is on course to equalling and surpassing Zikiru’s tally in the Ghanaian’s debut season where he scored 10 goals. For now, we’ll wait and see how far our new number 99 goes .
