Third placed Green Eagles and fourth placed Green Buffaloes both won their week 35 fixtures on Saturday to go level on 68 points with second placed Nkana as the race for the CAF Champions League and Confederations Cup places hots up.
Green Buffaloes who have struggled for form in the run in finally got back to winning ways after going five games without a win when they beat Napsa Stars 1 – 0 thanks to a Felix Katongo lone goal.
The win burst the bubble for Napsa who were on a 12 game unbeaten run that extends back to the first week of July and has seen them sail out of relegation to stand on 36 points in position 15.
Green Eagles continue to grind out results as they chase their first continental spot this time beating visiting Forest Rangers 1 – 0 through a Tapson Kaseba goal. Kaseba has had a wonder season scoring 17 goals so far and is currently joint second on the top scorers chart with Jesse Were, two goals behind leading scorer Idriss Mbombo.
As it stands, 5th placed Zanaco who have 60 points and a game in hand still have a chance to take a spot in the top four should they win their games and results of the other teams in the top four go their way.
Leaders Zesco United extended their lead on top of the log to 9 points after beating Nkambala Leopards 2 – 0 . They scored through Jesse Were and Lazarous Kambole.
With three games to play, New Monze Swallows has already been confirmed as relegated.
