The Zambia U17 Girls National Team thrashed Malawi 3-0 to successfully defend their COSAFA U17 Girls Championship title.
Zambia came into the final with a fantastic scoring record of 18 goals scored and only one conceded in three matches.
Ruth Mukoma put Zambia in the lead in the 24th minute using her pace wisely to break the defense before slotting home past the goalkeeper with ease.
Mukoma then turned provider three minutes later as she set up Natasha Kasema to score her third goal of the tournament and Zambia’s second of the match.
Gift Chisha Mazimba poked home from close range to send Zambia to the break with a comfortable 3-0 lead.
The second half saw Zambia miss a number of chances but the three goals from the first half was enough to seal the win.
Taonga ‘Big Six’ Mubanga was named as the player of the match following her fantastic showing in the match.
Mozambique took the bronze medal with a seesaw 3-2 win over Zimbabwe in the third-place play-off.
Zambia’s Ruth Mukoma was named as the Player of the Tournament while Goalkeeper of the Tournament went to Bukata Kakumbi.
Nancy Lebang of Namibia walked away with the top goalscorers award for her seven goals while the Fair Play Award went to Malawi.
