Red Arrows right back Benedict Chepeshi is confident that Zambia will win Tuesday’s game and progress to the semifinals of the 2022 COSAFA championship.
Chepeshi believes the Copper Bullets have prepared enough for the tournament.
“The preparations have been okay and coming from off-season the team we have done our best I think being taken through the paces for two weeks now ready as we go to South Africa today,” the Red Arrows man said.
“We will be fresher than them and knowing that the tournament is not easy for every team we have to do our best when we go there and we have to make sure that we carry the day on Tuesday.”
Chepeshi has encouraged the fans to rally behind the team and with the excellent performance of the Copper Queens, they are motivated to also get good results too.
“My message to the ladies is that they have made us proud watching the games its a motivating factor even for us going into the Cosafa competition seeing how they have done we also want to do our best to be at the same level with the ladies because we can’t go and being knocked out at the first game of the tournament, like for last year the Cosafa tournament was very disappointing but this time around its a new factor and we are proud of the girls and we will do best us the boys,” he said.
Zambia will join the quarterfinal stage on Tuesday where they await Group A winners.
Group A comprises Angola, Botswana, Comoros, and Seychelles.
Zambia is eying the sixth title to join neighbors Zimbabwe as the team with the most titles in the regional showpiece.
Zambia last won the tournament back in 2019 under Green Eagles boss Aggrey Chiyangi with Lazarus Kambole, Bruce Musakanya, Sebastian Mwange, Austin Muwowo, and Tapson Kaseba as the key players.
The five-time Cosafa Cup champions also have an eye on the July 24 African Nations Championship (CHAN) first leg tie away to Mozambique.
