Copper Queens to leave for Luanda later today

The Zambia Women’s National Team will today leave for Angola ahead of Wednesday’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) second round, first leg qualifier against Angola in Luanda.

Zambia will be seeking a fourth consecutive appearance at the WAFCON and build on their highest ever podium finish when they won bronze at the expense of Nigeria at the 2022 WAFCON held in Morocco.

The local assemblage together with three based players Catherine Musonda, Martha Tembo and Ireen Lungu have been shaping up in Lusaka.

Assistant Coach Florence Mwila has 20 players at her disposal at the moment but will need to reduce the number to 17 players ahead of the trip.

Captain Barbra Banda, Racheal Kundananji, Racheal Nachula, Prisca Chilufya, Misozi Zulu and Hellen Chanda will join the team directly in Luanda to complete the squad and take the number to 23 players.

The Copper Queens will host Angola in the return leg on 5 December at the Levy Mwanawasa stadium in Ndola.
