The Zambia Women’s national team will face off with South American side Colombia in an international friendly match next month.
The Copper Queens will square off with the Las Chicas Superpoderosas in two matches as part of the two teams preparations for the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
This is according to a statement by the Football Association of Zambia and a ZamFoot collaborating story from South America.
Colombia head coach Nelson Abadía had earlier urged the FA to engage teams from other continents as part of their preparations for the World Cup.
“The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) wishes to inform its members and stakeholders that the Zambia Senior Women’s National Team will play Colombia in Cali next month in FIFA International Friendly matches.”
The Copper Queens will play World Cup bound Colombia on November 12 and 15 at the Pascual Guerrero Stadium in Cali.
Colombia is part of Pot 3 and Zambia in Pot 4 ahead of the World Cup draw that will take place on October 22 in Auckland/Tāmaki Makaurau.
The Power Puff Girls are the second highest ranked team in South America and 27th in the World. They were also the runners up at the 2022 Copa América Femenina losing 1-0 to Brazil.
This comes as a boost for coach Bruce Mwape’s side following the cancellation of the Netherlands game.
The FIFA Women’s World Cup will be staged from July 20 to August 20 in 2023.
