The Zambia National Women’s Team has arrived and set up base in South Africa for a Weeklong training camp as part of their preparations ahead of next week’s crucial Tokyo 2020 Olympics Fifth and Final Round qualifier match against Cameron which will be played on 5th March and 10th March in Yaounde and Lusaka respectively.
Coach Bruce Mwape yesterday named his final 20-member squad which will travel to Yaounde with the inclusion of Indeni Roses goalkeeper Catherine Musonda who returns to the team after missing out for quite some time now together with Midfield Maestro Ireen ‘Xavi’ Lungu from Green Buffaloes and Red Arrows ‘No Nonsense’ Defender Fikile Khosa who took up the place for the injured Agnes Musesa.
Others who return to the fold is the Indeni Roses duo Jackeline Nkole and Theresa Chewe.
However, the only surprising name missing in the team is Kazakhstan based striker Racheal Kundananji who plays for BIIK Kazguyrt as she has not been feeling well and hasn’t yet fully recovered.
The Copper Queens and the Indomitable Lionesses are the only two teams remaining in the African race for the Japan finals and will lock horns in a do or die match and the winner will progress to the Tokyo Olympics while the losers will have a second chance to redeem themselves against CONMEBOL runners-up Chile in a play-off match and the overall winner after two-legs will join the rest of the teams to compete at the Olympics which will be held in Tokyo, Japan from July 24 – August 7, 2020.
